with us. i am steve chenevey -- thank you for being with us. >> yesterday was just stellar. we hit a record high of 84 degrees. not quite that warm today, but feeling pretty good.starting out with some patchy fog this morning. misty in a few areas. we will see some sunshine by the afternoon. temperatures will be cooler today. we will start a cooling temperature trend that will last well into the weekend and early next week. the big question mark is will there be a major storm for washington, d.c.? it is too soon to tell. we will keep you up-to-date and the be some of the possible scenarios. we will warm up to 75 degrees this afternoon. we will send it back to the anchors, steve and cynne

simpson. >> hurricane sandy head as a category 2 storm. florida already under a tropical storm watch. the east coast is anticipating some kind of an impact. >> it looks like it will skirt the east coast of the united states. some people already taking precautions. >> people here unfortunately are all to use to dealing with flooding. they have had several instances where they had to find a way to get buckets of water out of their basement. they are preparing now. they say they will keep an eye to watch out to see if sandy has an impact. >> with hurricane sandy eyeing the east coast people in flood prone neighborhoods are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. >> i just hope it does not happen. there is nothing to stop the water from getting in.

the water is used to cool the broken reactor about 200 tons of radioactive water stored in hundreds of giant tanks. tokyo electric power has chopped down trees to make room for more tanks. they predict the water will more than triple in three years. police arrested 17-year-old after receiving a phone call from his mother. jessica disappeared walking to school on october 5. her body was found five days later. police believe he tried to kidnap a woman from a park in may. >> the parents of a 12-year-old new jersey girl allegedly killed by two brothers say their daughter was treated like a piece of trash. her body was found in a recycling bin.

the brothers were charged on tuesday with murdering her. the boy's father is struggling to make sense of the tragedy. >> they are my little sons. i would not mind going to see them -- it not right now but may be in the future. >> the boys are 15 and 17 years old. their names have not been officially released. >> a wild monkey on the run in florida for three years has been captured. wildlife officials shot the monkey with a tranquilizer dart. he will be tested for viruses and given a physical. officials will try to find a good home for him. the search intensified two weeks ago after he bit a woman. he developed quite a following and even had his own facebook page. >> he had a little taste of

morning. what is going to happen with a hurricane? will it be impacting us? some of the computer models, it really is too soon to tell exactly where it is going. we will show you the satellite picture of sandy. a category 2 hurricane with the winds of 105 miles per hour. it intensified rapidly yesterday. you can see the defined eye on the satellite feature moving over cuba and back out into the open water heading toward the bahamas. once it gets to the north of there, we will have a better idea of where it is going. it is down the line. late sunday into monday and tuesday is when we will see the closest call. i do think we will see some wind and rain and flooding will be a concern as you can see the bulls eye on the map. let's talk about what is happening locally. we have been setting adam

high's in the mid 70's. maybe a little bit of drizzle tomorrow and friday. >> howard county, i am getting reports of an extremely serious crash they are sending multiple fire and rescue units on route 1 at route hundred between 95 and the baltimore washington parkway. you need to use 95 or the parkway. a very serious crash. in virginia and accident in anadale. this crash involving this overturned car closes the road south of little river turnpike. try ravensworth as your workaround. >> now is the time to stock up

but that model is saying. let's take a look at the forecast track. notice first of all that it has taken a little bit of a western jog compared to what we had yesterday. some of the trends have gone westward. notice the yellow left line of uncertainty. the left side of the cone of uncertainty. that basically brushes up against the mid-atlantic coast line. right now we are on that edge of the cone of uncertainty. it will have some kind of an impact on our weather. sunday, just in time for the marine corps marathon, and early next week. the extent of the impact we still do not know yet. should it take a left track, it will have a greater impact on the weather. there still is a chance it will take the east word tract or the

right side of the cone of uncertainty, and that would mean less of an impact on the weather. i do think we will cloud up for the weekend. we will probably have areas of rain developing on sunday. anywhere where the winds are picking up will have an impact. we will keep on top of this storm system throughout the day every day until it gets closer to our coastline. that is the latest, back to you in the studio. >> people in this area still getting ready just in case heavy rains hit the area. >> there is a lot of questions about what exactly will happen. there are a lot of concerns for residents used to dealing with flooding. right where adam is an old town alexandria flooding happens frequently. flooding is also an issue here.

they had to deal with it a lot over the past year with storms moving through the area. they have concerns that could be a problem again with wind and rain pusan again. people are already taking precautions. they are cleaning out those storm daughters, cleaning out all of the different brands try to make sure they can do all they can ahead of this to try to prevent the problems as much as possible. emergency management teams are preparing for the possibility of whatever may come our way. a good question is if and what we will get. that is always a big issue with power companies with storms in our area. they are already talking to extra contractors and talking to their crews to make sure if we have a lot of heavy rain and wind right here at enter the d.c. region.

it is a category 2 storm. it will transition into a non tropical storm through sunday and is likely to have some affect on our weather potentially a significant effect. here is the latest affirmation for what we expect today. cloudy skies, and some sunshine breaking through with temperatures in the 70's. >> a very serious crash. unfortunately, a fatality is involved. this is in elkridge, maryland. south of route 100. it is between 95 and 295. that is what you need to use. avoid rte. 1 at route 100 for this very unfortunate accident. there is an accident on the new hampshire ave.

it is riding up on the tummy of the child. you want the lap belt to lay across the upper thighs. if you look at the shoulder belt, it is sliding off of the shoulder. it should be fitting snugly. we have a lot more good boosters. parents have a lot of choices. they can avoid a booster that will not fit consistently -- consistently with vehicles. >> there are some expensive models and some less expensive. are there good options and all of the price ranges? >> a price is not an indicator on how well it will position the belts. you can get a booster seats as little as $20 to much more expensive. it is not the price, it is the
